about

This work spreads from "Bianca", that I wrote more than 10 years ago, before a long period of silence. When I started writing again I extracted sections and expanded them to whole new pieces. My compositional approach slowly shifted from a classical "written" approach, where I would write the complete sheet first, to an improvised approach, where I would improvise over a chord sequence, or a pattern, until the final idea emerged.

"Notti Bianche" is named after a movie shot in my hometown, written by Suso Cecchi D'Amico, a great Italian screenwriter (this music is for a short movie on her).

In "One more glass" the harmonic idea is inspired to the work of Philip Glass, the first draft also had an orchestration in his style, that I then changed to what it is now.

"Waves on the shore" is the first song I wrote when I started writing again after a long period of silence. This piece reminds me the feeling of freedom I get when I look at the horizon on the sea in my home town, and feel the waves on my feet as I walk on the shore. "Waves on the shore" is also a verse from "Moon and sand", sung by Chet Baker.
"The midnight sea" is also a verse from "Moon and sand", the pattern used in the bass line cites that song.

The melody in "Lullaby" has a swinging/lulling rhythm.
